If your administrator has enrolled you for a Skill Evaluator test, then you will see the ‘Skill Evaluator’ option when you log into your Typequick course, alongside the ‘Keyboard Course’ option. If you select the ‘Skill Evaluator’ option, you will be offered a choice between a ‘warm-up’ or ‘practice’ test (sometimes both) and a ‘main test’. If you have not completed a Skill Evaluator test before, you should choose to complete a practice test or a warm-up test before you move on and try the main test.
If your administrator has not enrolled you for a Skill Evaluator test, then you will go straight to the keyboard course menu when you log in. So you won’t see the Skill Evaluator option.
If you select any of the test options, you will then be presented with simple instructions on how to complete your test. Once you click in the white typing panel below the text that you have to copy type, the on-screen countdown slider will begin. Your test will last for between 2 and 10 minutes, depending on how long your administrator has decided your test should last.
As you copy type the text, keep your eyes on the top line of the source text which is highlighted in red. As the source text scrolls up, the top line will always be in red and this is the line that you should be copying.
Type as quickly as you can but concentrate on trying to be as accurate as you can as well. You can correct any mistakes you make as you proceed through the test, just as if you were using a word processing package, but this will of course slow down your speed a little.
At the end of the test, whether you have completed a warm-up, practice or main test, a report showing your score and what you have typed with any errors highlighted will appear on your screen. Only the results of the main test will be recorded in the Typequick administration system and count towards a certificate, if your administrator has decided to issue certificates.
