<p>You can get them to do a test at the start, part-way through or at the end of their training, so that you can see how they have progressed.  You can set how long the test will last, and you can even easily create your own text for the test, or use our pre-set templates. </p>
<p>The student will see the result on screen immediately they finish, along with a reproduction of what they typed with any errors highlighted. The result will be stored in your administration system. You can even get the system to print off a Typequick certificate for them including their name and score expressed in terms of speed and accuracy.</p>
<p>You can add Skill Evaluator to your existing courseware licence for a small extra fee.  Or buy it on its own. For more information, email us at <a href="mailto:enquiries@typeandtest">enquiries@typeandtest</a> or call us on 01480 861867.</p>

<p>Each pupil &#8217;subscription&#8217; lasts for one year from the date they start the course.  The cost of the annual licence is kept low through the economies of scale brought about through a growing list of members, which has recently reached 55 schools.  <a href="http://www.type-net.org/schools-that-have-joined-type-net/">Click here</a> to see the latest list.  From as little as £195, it includes the Typequick Learning Management System, used to enrol pupils and track their progress, automatic updates, and technical support from Type&amp;Test&#8217;s efficient and friendly team.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-558" title="St_Crispins_School_Wokingham_logo" src="http://www.typeandtest.com/wp-content/uploads/St_Crispins_School_Wokingham_logo-246x300.jpg" alt="St_Crispins_School_Wokingham_logo" width="246" height="300" />Since joining Type-Net in March this year, St. Crispin’s School in Wokingham, Berkshire &#8211; a specialist school Mathematics, Computing and Leadership, has enrolled almost 800 pupils onto the Typequick for Students course via the Type-Net for Schools annual licence scheme.</p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>Mike Elward, Assistant Head at the school and the Director of e-Learning, who has been in charge of the delivery of Typequick across the school, started the process by contacting parents to tell them about the programme.  “All parents of our students in years 7 and 8 were sent an email or letter informing them when we first joined the ‘Type-Net for Schools’ scheme” he says.  “We explained why we had decided to encourage their children to learn how to use a keyboard correctly, setting out the short and long-term benefits.  We felt it was important to gain their support for what we were doing”.</p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>Mike went on to explain that each member of staff was also informed of the programme and was asked to encourage their students to make the most of it.  He has found that students have, in the main, been positive about it – more so than the school expected at the outset.  “Many students seem to have enthusiastically embraced this challenge” he says, “but it does require a lot of diligence and perseverance from the students if they are ultimately to become touch typists or ‘masters of the keyboard’.    We will devote 10 minutes of every ICT lesson to this activity and ICT homework until Christmas.   We will monitor progress throughout”.</p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>Mike also revealed another benefit from learning to type that might not have been that obvious when the program began.  “Many students tell me that one of the main reasons they had chosen in the past to ‘copy and paste’ i.e. plagiarise material, is because typing was too onerous a task  for them. There was also reluctance from some students to draft and redraft work for the same reason.  Hopefully we will all see an improvement in the quality of work from many students if they feel more at ease when using the keyboard.  I wonder how many of us, if we were being really honest, would wish that we were able to use the keyboard properly.”</p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>Mike believes that typing could – or even should – be taught in Primary Schools.  “It is my intention in the future to liaise with the local Primary Schools and to encourage them to embark on this scheme” he says.  “We have far too many students in my opinion who have not been given the opportunity early enough to develop essential keyboard skills”.</p>

<p>When it comes to <a title="blocked::http://www.pitman-training.com/training/typing-and-keyboard-skills-training" href="http://www.pitman-training.com/training/typing-and-keyboard-skills-training">touch-typing training</a>, Pitman Training is frequently the first name on many people’s lips.   Founded over 100 years ago (and famous over the years for training an army of secretaries in shorthand and typing) the company delivers a wide range of computing and work-related skills training courses, many of which lead to a nationally recognised qualification.  Amongst the courses Pitman Training offers is ‘typaz’, their flagship touch typing training programme. </p>
<p><br class="spacer_" /></p>
<p>Pitman’s standards are exacting, so we are proud to report that they selected Type&amp;Test as their partner on the ‘typaz’ program, after extensively evaluating the Typequick Professional courseware.  Students opting for typaz are given a structured path to follow through the typaz courseware, a comprehensive workbook containing a wealth of additional training material, and ongoing support and encouragement from a Pitman Training advisor.  Students also have the option to go for the BCS ‘e-type’ Certificate at Level 1 and Level 2.</p>

<p>There are around 100 Pitman Training Centres, so there is bound to be one near you! <p>Type-Net for Schools was launched in January this year to address the urgent need for good typing skills in schools across the UK. Pupils are using computers in schools more than ever before, for assignments, research, assessments and even some exams.  Yet few schools deliver any form of keyboard skills training.</p>
<p>Recent research indicates that, whilst around 80% of schools think it would be a good idea to teach touch typing, only around 15% actually teach it.  Those that don&#8217;t say it is because they fear that the cost will be too high, that they don&#8217;t have the time to teach it or they don&#8217;t have room for it on the timetable.  With &#8216;Type-Net&#8217;, all these fears are addressed and resolved.</p>
<p>Supported by BCS &#8211; the Chartered Institute for IT &#8211; Type-Net is a new online service, delivered and supported by Type&amp;Test, that provides keyboard skills training for pupils and staff along with other related benefits, at a price that schools can afford.  The low price is achieved through the economies of scale brought about by a growing number of member schools, and membership is growing fast.  To find out more about Type-Net, simply email us at <a href="<script>MailGuard('enquiries','typeandtest.com')</script>"><script>MailGuard('enquiries','typeandtest.com')</script></a> giving your name, the name of your school and its postcode.  We will then email you our Type-Net briefing sheet and details of how your school could join.</p>

<p><em>&#8220;Whilst clearing out my home office I found the floppy disc (ask your father about them) of the Typequick Keyboard Training Course that I bought many years ago.  I have never tested my speed, but I am the only UK male I know who can touch type.  Many women seem to have learned the skill, but very few men and the only men I know who can are from America. But after all these years I still use the skills learned on a pre windows <strong>DOS system. </strong>Thanks very much for producing such a good product and I am pleased that you are still operational, which proves your output is well received.  Thanks, Dennis.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>We receive many communications from people who say that learning to type was one of the best things they ever did.  If you haven&#8217;t learned to touch type yet, isn&#8217;t it about time you did?  It&#8217;s never too late to learn&#8230;.but better sooner than later.  <a href="http://www.typeandtest.com/contact-us/">Contact us </a>now to order your copy of Typequick.  You won&#8217;t regret it.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-475" title="fast-typing" src="http://www.typeandtest.com/wp-content/uploads/fast-typing1-150x150.jpg" alt="fast-typing" width="150" height="150" />Recent research conducted by the BCS &#8211; Chartered Institute for IT &#8211; revealed that pupils in secondary schools are spending, on average, about three hours a day on a computer. They are using them for research, assignments, homework etc&#8230;, so computers have clearly become an essential tool for thousands, if not millions, of pupils across the country.  Yet despite this, most pupils still cannot type properly and around 85% of schools don&#8217;t teach them how to do so.  It is the new age equivalent of being told how to write but not how to hold a pen.</p>
<p>The faster pupils can type, the more they will benefit from using their computers and the more time they will have to study and increase their knowledge of their subject without having to struggle with the keyboard.  What&#8217;s more, their output will be more accurate, is likely to be more in-depth and invariably, if not always, will be more legible than hand written work. </p>
<p>Given that most touch typists can type at least twice as fast as they can write, it stands to reason that a little investment in time now will reap significant benefits later.  So the effect on a pupil&#8217;s exam chances can only be positive &#8211; especially when exams are eventually taken using a computer which is being widely predicted.</p>
<p>Since we launched our &#8216;Type-Net&#8217; scheme, which makes it easier and cheaper than ever before for schools to provide pupils (and staff!) with typing training, scores of schools have come forward wanting to take it up.  To find out more about Type-Net, simply email us at <a href="mailto:type-<script>MailGuard('net','typeandtest.com')</script>"><script>MailGuard('enquiries','typeandtest.com')</script></a> and we will email you back with some information.  It just might make a the difference between exam success or failure for some of your pupils.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-461" title="Computerised exam" src="http://www.typeandtest.com/wp-content/uploads/Computerised-exam-150x150.jpg" alt="Computerised exam" width="150" height="150" />A recent broadcast on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 featured Isabel Nisbet, the outgoing head of Ofqual, who was arguing for a move towards computerised exams.  She said that paper-based exams were &#8220;running the risk of becoming invalid, because their medium of pen and ink differs from the way in which youngsters (now) learn&#8221;.</p>
<p>The benefits of computerised exams were clear: No more mounds of paper being transported around the country; vastly reduced amounts of marking because the computers, for some subjects at least, will be able to mark papers automatically ; the resulting marking consistency ; consistently legible exam papers&#8230;.the list could go on. </p>
<p>The problem however is pupils&#8217; typing skills.  With around 85% of schools still not teaching typing, pupils would be seriously hindered when they came to sit their exams, even if they knew the subject inside out.</p>
<p>Type&amp;Test&#8217;s new <strong>&#8216;Type-Net&#8217;</strong> scheme makes it easy and cheap for schools to provide typing training, without impacting on the school timetable.  Our leading-edge online courseware can be used at home as well as in school, needs no supervision and takes virtually no time to set up.  Lesson scores and progress are recorded for monitoring purposes and pupils should be touch typing fast and furiously within 2 &#8211; 3 months of short but regular practice sessions.</p>
<p><strong>For more information about how your school can join the Type-Net scheme, simply email </strong><a href="mailto:type-<script>MailGuard('net','typeandtest.com')</script>"><strong><script>MailGuard('enquiries','typeandtest.com')</script></strong></a><strong> giving your name, your school&#8217;s name and postcode and we&#8217;ll email you our Type-Net briefing.</strong></p>

<p>It&#8217;s a win-win-win situation!  The school wins because, whilst it will pay between £195 and £395 for its Type-Net membership, depending on the size of its pupil population, under the Type-Net licence it can charge parents whatever it wishes for the pupils&#8217; annual Typequick courseware subscriptions in order to recover the cost of the fee, or even to generate income.  Parents win because the school is likely to charge them less than the consumer price for a single annual licence for a child, which is £20 plus VAT.  And the pupils win because they will quickly learn to type using a fantastic program that they can access at home, at school or on any computer with a broadband connection.</p>
<p>Of course, charging parents is not compulsory, but if funds are tight then some schools believe it is a perfectly justifiable option.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-428" title="Touch typing" src="http://www.typeandtest.com/wp-content/uploads/type-quick-easy-200X200-150x150.jpg" alt="Touch typing" width="150" height="150" />Recent research that we conducted indicates that whilst around 80% of schools think it would be a good idea to teach touch typing, only around 15% actually teach it.  Those that don&#8217;t say it is because they fear that the cost will be too high, that they don&#8217;t have the time to teach it or they don&#8217;t have room for it on the timetable.  With &#8216;Type-Net&#8217;, all these fears are resolved.</p>
<p>Type-Net is a new online service delivered and supported by Type&amp;Test Ltd that provides keyboard skills training for pupils and staff along with other related benefits, at a price that schools can afford.  The low price is achieved through the economies of scale brought about by a growing number of member schools.
